I’m Rabbi Ruth Adar, a teaching rabbi and storyteller, living in San Leandro, California.
Teaching basic Judaism to adults is my passion. It may seem as if there is an infinite amount of material to learn (and there is!) but anything is possible if you get a nice base from which to learn. My fondest hope is that each of my students will find his or her own passion for some aspect of Jewish life.
I’m a Reform rabbi, a member of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, a graduate of the Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, the Divinity School at the University of Chicago, and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. I’ve been an active participant in the East Bay Jewish scene for many years. Before I went to rabbinical school, I was a Regional Outreach Director for the Union of Reform Judaism, a job that attuned me to interfaith issues. I’m well acquainted with both the Catholic and Protestant Christian traditions (my area of concentration in Chicago was History of Religions, and I have studied Christian history and theology in depth.)
I look forward to learning with you!
